Ingredients
For the Cookies:
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
¾ cup brown sugar
¼ cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 tbsp maple syrup (pure or pancake-style)
1 tsp vanilla extract
2¼ cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp ground cinnamon
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp ground nutmeg (optional, for warmth)
For the Maple Glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tbsp maple syrup
1–2 tbsp milk (as needed for consistency)
Pinch of salt
Optional Toppings:
Cinnamon sugar for sprinkling
Mini French toast cereal pieces or crushed graham crackers for garnish
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
Step 2: Make the Cookie Dough
-
In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).
-
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
-
Mix in maple syrup and vanilla extract.
Step 3: Add the Dry Ingredients
-
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cinnamon, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg (if using).
-
Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined.
Step 4: Scoop and Bake
-
Scoop dough into 1½-tbsp-sized balls and place on the prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
-
Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until edges are set and centers look slightly soft.
-
Remove from oven and let cool on the sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 5: Make the Maple Glaze
-
In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, maple syrup, and a splash of milk.
-
Adjust consistency by adding more milk (for a thinner glaze) or more sugar (for a thicker glaze).
-
Add a pinch of salt to balance the sweetness.
Step 6: Glaze the Cookies
-
Once cookies are fully cooled, drizzle the maple glaze over each one using a spoon or piping bag.
-
Optionally sprinkle with cinnamon sugar or cereal topping before glaze sets.
-
Let glaze firm up before stacking or storing.
Notes
Don’t Overbake – Cookies should look slightly underdone in the center when pulled from the oven.
Use Real Maple Syrup – For the best flavor, though pancake syrup will still taste great.
Add Texture – Stir in chopped pecans, oats, or crushed cereal for a fun twist.
Let Cookies Cool – Glazing too soon can cause it to melt off.
Double the Batch – These go fast, especially when shared!
