  • ¼ tsp baking powder

  • Pinch of salt

  • 3 tbsp milk (any type)

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil or melted butter

  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 tbsp chocolate chips (plus extra for topping)

Optional Toppings:

  • Whipped cream

  • Ice cream

  • Extra chocolate chips

  • Caramel drizzle

Instructions

Step 1: Mix the Dry Ingredients

  1. In your mug, add the flour, sugar, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.

  2. Stir together until evenly combined.

Step 2: Add the Wet Ingredients

  1. Add the milk, vegetable oil (or melted butter), and vanilla extract to the mug.

  2. Stir until you have a smooth, lump-free batter.

Step 3: Fold in the Chocolate Chips

  1. Stir in the chocolate chips, reserving a few to sprinkle on top for extra gooeyness.

  2. The batter should be thick but pourable.

Step 4: Microwave the Mug Cake

  1. Microwave on high for 60 to 90 seconds.

  2. Start checking at 60 seconds—the cake should rise and look set but still moist.

  3. If needed, microwave in additional 10-second intervals.

Step 5: Cool Slightly and Serve

  1. Let the mug cake cool for 1-2 minutes (it will be hot!).

  2. Top with whipped cream, a scoop of ice cream, or an extra sprinkle of chocolate chips.

  3. Grab a spoon and enjoy straight from the mug

Notes

Use a Large Mug – Gives the cake space to rise without spilling over.
Don’t Overcook – Microwave times can vary; better to slightly undercook than overcook for a moist cake.
Mix Thoroughly – Make sure no flour pockets remain for an even texture.
Customize It – Add a tablespoon of peanut butter, Nutella, or a sprinkle of cinnamon for a twist.
Serve Warm – Mug cakes are best enjoyed fresh and warm.
