Ingredients

Scale

For the Cobbler Base:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Cinnamon-Sugar Topping:

  • ½ cup light brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

For the Hot Water Layer:

  • 1 ½ cups hot water

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat & Prepare

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Pour the melted butter into the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Step 2: Make the Batter

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Add the milk and vanilla extract, stirring until smooth.
  3. Pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish—do not stir.

Step 3: Add the Cinnamon-Sugar Topping

  1. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon.
  2. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the batter.

Step 4: Pour the Hot Water

  1. Carefully pour the hot water over the entire dish—do not stir! This will help create a gooey, caramelized cobbler.

Step 5: Bake & Serve

  1. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crisp.
  2. Let cool for about 10 minutes before serving. The cobbler will thicken as it cools.
  3. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce!

Notes

  • Do NOT stir once the layers are added—this helps create the perfect cobbler texture.
  • Use fresh cinnamon for the best warm and cozy flavor.
  • Let it rest for 10 minutes after baking to allow the caramel-like sauce to thicken.
  • Want a little extra spice? Add a pinch of nutmeg or ginger to the cinnamon-sugar topping.
