For the Seafood Cakes:

  • ½ lb lump crab meat – Sweet and delicate.
  • ½ lb shrimp, peeled, deveined, and finely chopped – Adds a firm, juicy texture.
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular) – Helps bind the cakes.
  • 1 egg – Holds everything together.
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise – Adds moisture and flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard – Gives a slight tang.
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce – Deepens the flavor.
  • ½ teaspoon Old Bay seasoning – A must for seafood dishes!
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder – Adds depth.
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika – For a subtle smokiness.
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice – Brightens up the flavors.
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped – For freshness.
  • 1 tablespoon green onions, finely chopped – Adds mild onion flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil – For frying.

For the Lemon Garlic Sauce (Optional):

  • ½ cup Greek yogurt or mayonnaise – A creamy base.
  • 1 clove garlic, minced – For extra punch.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice – Adds a fresh, zesty touch.
  • ½ teaspoon Old Bay seasoning – Complements the seafood flavor.

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Mixture

  1. In a large bowl, combine the crab meat, chopped shrimp, breadcrumbs, egg, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, Old Bay seasoning, garlic powder, smoked paprika, lemon juice, parsley, and green onions.
  2. Gently mix everything together until well combined. Try not to overmix to keep the cakes tender.

Step 2: Shape the Cakes

  1. Divide the mixture into 6-8 equal portions and shape them into patties, about ¾-inch thick.
  2. Place them on a plate and refrigerate for 20-30 minutes to help them hold their shape while cooking.

Step 3: Cook the Crab and Shrimp Cakes

  1. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Carefully place the cakes in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  3. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Step 4: Make the Lemon Garlic Sauce (Optional)

  1. In a small bowl, mix together the Greek yogurt (or mayo), minced garlic, lemon juice, and Old Bay seasoning.
  2. Stir until smooth and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Step 5: Serve and Enjoy!

  1. Serve the crab and shrimp cakes warm with a drizzle of lemon garlic sauce and extra lemon wedges on the side.

Notes

  • Use Fresh or Quality Seafood – Fresh crab meat and shrimp will give the best flavor, but canned crab also works.
