For the Banana Bread:

  • 2 large ripe bananas, mashed: The key to a moist, flavorful loaf.
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted: Adds richness.

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract: Enhances the flavor.
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour: The base of the bread.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda: Helps the bread rise.
  • ½ teaspoon salt: Balances the sweetness.
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon: A warm, cozy spice.

For the Cream Cheese Filling:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened: Creates a creamy, tangy swirl.
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar: Sweetens the filling.
  • 1 large egg: Helps it set.
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract: For extra flavor.

For the Cinnamon Swirl:

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar: Sweet and simple.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon: The perfect spice.

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Batter

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and line with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mash the bananas, then whisk in melted butter, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.

Step 2: Make the Cream Cheese Filling

  1. In a separate bowl, beat together cream cheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.

Step 3: Make the Cinnamon Swirl

  1. In a small bowl, mix together sugar and cinnamon for the swirl.

Step 4: Layer the Banana Bread

  1. Pour half of the banana bread batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  2. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the batter.
  3. Gently spread the cream cheese filling on top.
  4. Add the remaining banana bread batter over the cream cheese layer.
  5. Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture on top, then use a knife to gently swirl it into the batter.

Step 5: Bake & Cool

  1. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean (a little cream cheese on the toothpick is okay).
  2. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Use Overripe Bananas – The riper, the better! They add natural sweetness and moisture.
Don’t Overmix the Batter – Stir until just combined for a soft, tender texture.
Let It Cool Completely – The cream cheese filling sets as it cools, making slicing easier.
