  • 1 pound chicken Italian sausage (or spicy chicken sausage)
  • 30 ounces kidney beans (2 cans, rinsed and drained)
  • 15 ounces pinto beans (1 can, rinsed and drained)
  • 29 ounces diced tomatoes (with juice)
  • 3 ounces tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar or granulated sugar
  • 1 medium yellow onion (diced)
  • 1 red bell pepper (seeded and chopped)
  • 1 to 2 garlic cloves (minced)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and chicken sausage until mostly cooked through.
  2. Add diced onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet; cook until onion is translucent.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a crockpot.
  4. Add kidney and pinto beans, diced tomatoes (including juice), tomato paste, and beef broth.
  5. Stir in chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, black pepper, and sugar.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 4 to 6 hours or high for 2 to 3 hours.
  7. Serve hot with desired toppings.
