6 oz cooked spaghetti (about half a standard box)
2 tbsp melted butter
1 large egg
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
For the Filling:
1 tbsp olive oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 lb ground beef or ground chicken
2 cups marinara sauce (homemade or store-bought)
1 tsp Italian seasoning
¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
For the Topping:
1 cup ricotta cheese
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
Step 1: Cook the Spaghetti
-
Bring a pot of salted water to a boil.
-
Cook spaghetti until al dente according to package directions.
-
Drain and toss with melted butter. Let cool slightly.
Step 2: Make the Spaghetti Crust
-
In a large bowl, whisk together egg, Parmesan cheese, salt, and black pepper.
-
Add the cooled spaghetti and toss to coat evenly.
-
Press the spaghetti mixture into the bottom and up the sides of a greased 9-inch pie dish to form a crust.
Step 3: Prepare the Filling
-
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
-
Add chopped onion and sauté for 2–3 minutes until softened.
-
Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
-
Add ground beef or chicken and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
-
Drain excess fat if needed.
-
Stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 5 minutes.
Step 4: Assemble the Pie
-
Spread ricotta cheese evenly over the spaghetti crust.
-
Spoon the meat and sauce mixture over the ricotta layer.
-
Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese evenly on top.
Step 5: Bake the Pie
-
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
Bake the spaghetti pie uncovered for 25–30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
-
For a golden top, broil for the last 2–3 minutes, watching closely.
Step 6: Cool & Serve
-
Let the pie rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing to help it hold its shape.
-
Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired.
-
Serve warm with a crisp salad or garlic bread.
Notes
Use Al Dente Pasta – Slightly firm noodles hold up better when baked.
Don’t Overload the Crust – Keep the ricotta and meat sauce layers balanced so it sets nicely.
Let It Rest – Cooling briefly after baking helps the slices stay intact.
Switch Up the Meat – Try ground turkey, meatless crumbles, or sausage for variety.
Add Veggies – Diced bell peppers, mushrooms, or spinach can be mixed into the sauce for added nutrition.
