Ingredients

For the Crust Layer:
6 oz cooked spaghetti (about half a standard box)
2 tbsp melted butter
1 large egg
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper

For the Filling:
1 tbsp olive oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 lb ground beef or ground chicken
2 cups marinara sauce (homemade or store-bought)
1 tsp Italian seasoning
¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

For the Topping:
1 cup ricotta cheese
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)


Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Spaghetti

  1. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil.

  2. Cook spaghetti until al dente according to package directions.

  3. Drain and toss with melted butter. Let cool slightly.

Step 2: Make the Spaghetti Crust

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together egg, Parmesan cheese, salt, and black pepper.

  2. Add the cooled spaghetti and toss to coat evenly.

  3. Press the spaghetti mixture into the bottom and up the sides of a greased 9-inch pie dish to form a crust.

Step 3: Prepare the Filling

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.

  2. Add chopped onion and sauté for 2–3 minutes until softened.

  3. Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds.

  4. Add ground beef or chicken and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.

  5. Drain excess fat if needed.

  6. Stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 5 minutes.

Step 4: Assemble the Pie

  1. Spread ricotta cheese evenly over the spaghetti crust.

  2. Spoon the meat and sauce mixture over the ricotta layer.

  3. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese evenly on top.

Step 5: Bake the Pie

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Bake the spaghetti pie uncovered for 25–30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  3. For a golden top, broil for the last 2–3 minutes, watching closely.

Step 6: Cool & Serve

  1. Let the pie rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing to help it hold its shape.

  2. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired.

  3. Serve warm with a crisp salad or garlic bread.

Notes

Use Al Dente Pasta – Slightly firm noodles hold up better when baked.
Don’t Overload the Crust – Keep the ricotta and meat sauce layers balanced so it sets nicely.
Let It Rest – Cooling briefly after baking helps the slices stay intact.
