Ingredients

Scale

For the French Toast:

  • 6 slices thick-cut bread (brioche, challah, or Texas toast)

  • 1 cup eggnog (store-bought or homemade)

  • 3 large eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg

  • Pinch of salt

  • Butter or oil for cooking

For Serving (Optional but Recommended):

  • Maple syrup

  • Powdered sugar

  • Whipped cream

  • Fresh berries or sliced bananas

  • Candied pecans or chopped nuts

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Custard
In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggnog, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt until fully combined.

Step 2: Soak the Bread
Pour the custard mixture into a shallow dish.
Dip each slice of bread into the mixture, letting it soak for 20–30 seconds per side (longer for day-old or thick bread).
Let excess drip off before cooking.

Step 3: Cook the French Toast
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a little butter or oil.
Place soaked bread slices onto the hot skillet.
Cook for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and slightly crispy on the outside.
Work in batches, adding more butter as needed.

Step 4: Serve Warm
Stack slices on plates and serve with your favorite toppings like syrup, whipped cream, or fruit.
Dust with powdered sugar for a finishing touch.

Notes

Use Thick Bread – Sturdy bread holds up to soaking without falling apart.
Don’t Over-Soak – Let the bread absorb enough custard but not too much that it turns mushy.
Use Day-Old Bread – Slightly stale bread absorbs better and gives crisp edges.
Keep Warm – Place cooked slices on a baking sheet in a 200°F oven while you finish the batch.
Customize It – Add a splash of rum extract, orange zest, or a bit of ginger for extra depth.
