Ingredients
For the Fried Ravioli
- 1 package (12 oz) refrigerated cheese or beef ravioli
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (Italian-style preferred)
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
For the Marinara Dipping Sauce
- 1 cup marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- ½ teaspoon dried basil
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Marinara Sauce
- Heat olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat.
- Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Stir in marinara sauce, basil, oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using).
- Simmer for 5 minutes, then remove from heat and set aside.
Step 2: Prepare the Breading Station
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs and milk.
- In another bowl, mix breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and black pepper.
- Place flour in a separate bowl.
Step 3: Coat the Ravioli
- Dip each ravioli into the flour, coating both sides.
- Next, dip it into the egg mixture, letting excess drip off.
- Finally, coat it with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
Step 4: Fry the Ravioli
- Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the ravioli in batches, about 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Step 5: Serve and Enjoy
- Serve the fried ravioli warm with the marinara dipping sauce on the side.
Notes
- Use refrigerated ravioli for the best texture; frozen ravioli should be thawed before frying
- Don’t overcrowd the pan when frying, or the oil temperature will drop
- For extra crispiness, double-coat the ravioli by repeating the egg and breadcrumb steps
- For a lighter version, bake the ravioli at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through
