Instructions
Step 1: Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
Add warm water, milk, and olive oil.
Mix until a rough dough forms, then knead by hand or with a dough hook for 8–10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
Step 2: Add the Mix-Ins
Gently knead in the cheddar, jalapeños, garlic, parsley, and oregano until evenly distributed.
The dough may become a bit sticky from the cheese—add a sprinkle of flour if needed.
Step 3: First Rise
Shape the dough into a ball and place in a greased bowl.
Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, until doubled in size.
Step 4: Shape and Second Rise
Punch down the dough and shape into a loaf.
Place in a greased 9×5 inch loaf pan.
Cover loosely and let rise again for 30–45 minutes until puffy.
Step 5: Top and Bake
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Brush the top of the loaf with melted butter or oil.
Sprinkle with extra cheddar and arrange jalapeño slices on top.
Bake for 30–35 minutes, until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
Step 6: Slice and Serve
Allow bread to cool before slicing to keep the crumb intact.
Serve warm with butter, soup, or as a sandwich base.
Notes
Use Sharp Cheddar – Adds bold cheesy flavor.
Seed the Jalapeños – For flavor without overwhelming heat.
Let Dough Rise Fully – Ensures light, fluffy texture.
Cool Before Slicing – Helps retain structure and prevents tearing.
Store Properly – Keep it soft by storing in an airtight container.
