Ingredients
- 4 slices sourdough or dense bread
- 1 1/2 cups leftover macaroni and cheese
- 8 slices American or cheddar cheese
- 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions
- Heat ¾ cup of macaroni and cheese in a nonstick skillet over medium heat for about 3-4 minutes until warm.
- Shape the warmed mac & cheese into a pile the size of one slice of bread. Top with 2 slices of your chosen cheese.
- Butter 2 slices of bread on one side using a butter knife.
- In another skillet over medium heat, place one slice of bread butter side down and add 2 more slices of cheese on top.
- Once the bottom is lightly browned, gently lift with a spatula to check doneness.
- Transfer the mac & cheese stack onto the slice with cheese in the skillet, then cover with another slice of bread, toasted side up.
- Press together gently with the spatula before transferring to a plate.
- Serve immediately while hot.
