  • ½ pound ground beef
  • 2 cups marinara sauce (divided)
  • ½ cup ricotta cheese
  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened, divided)
  • 8 slices sourdough bread
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (divided)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned (about 5-7 minutes). Drain excess grease.
  2. Stir in 1 cup marinara sauce and simmer for 2-3 minutes. Set aside.
  3. In a bowl, mix ricotta, parmesan, and Italian seasoning until well combined.
  4. Butter one side of each bread slice. On the unbuttered side of one slice, spread about 2 tablespoons of the ricotta mixture.
  5. Layer with approximately ⅓ cup of the beef mixture and top with ¼ cup mozzarella cheese. Repeat these layers with three more slices.
  6. Top each sandwich with another buttered slice of bread and grill in a skillet over medium heat for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Serve immediately with remaining marinara sauce for dipping.
