Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups dark brown sugar
  • 1 cup dark corn syrup
  • 1 ¼ cups unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 cups pecan halves
  • 1 (15.25 oz) white cake mix
  • 1 cup hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9 x 13 inch baking pan with non-stick spray.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together dark brown sugar, dark corn syrup, half of the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
  3. Fold in three cups of pecans and spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  4. Sprinkle the white cake mix over the pecan layer without mixing.
  5. Drizzle the remaining melted butter on top of the cake mix layer.
  6. Add an extra half cup of dark brown sugar over the butter layer for sweetness.
  7. Pour hot water evenly over the entire surface without stirring.
  8. Top with remaining pecan halves.
  9. Bake for about 30-35 minutes until golden brown; the center may be slightly jiggly but will firm up as it cools.
  10. Allow to cool completely before serving.
