-
½ cup breadcrumbs
-
1 egg
-
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
-
1 tsp garlic powder
-
1 tsp onion powder
-
½ tsp salt
-
½ tsp black pepper
For the Gravy & Skillet Base:
-
2 tbsp olive oil or butter
-
1 small onion, thinly sliced
-
1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
-
2 cups beef broth
-
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
-
1 tbsp ketchup (for subtle sweetness and depth)
-
Salt and black pepper to taste
-
1 ½ lbs baby potatoes, halved or quartered
-
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Make the Salisbury Steaks
In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
Form into 4–6 oval patties. Set aside.
Step 2: Brown the Potatoes
Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in the skillet over medium heat.
Add potatoes cut-side down and sear for 3–4 minutes until golden.
Flip, cook another 2–3 minutes, then remove from skillet and set aside.
Step 3: Sear the Salisbury Steaks
In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed and sear the beef patties for 3–4 minutes per side until browned (they’ll finish cooking in the gravy).
Remove from skillet and set aside.
Step 4: Make the Gravy
Add sliced onions and mushrooms (if using) to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 4–5 minutes.
Add minced garlic and cook 30 seconds more.
Sprinkle in the flour and stir for 1 minute.
Gradually pour in beef broth while stirring, followed by Worcestershire sauce and ketchup.
Bring to a simmer and season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 5: Simmer Everything Together
Return seared steak patties and potatoes to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy.
Cover and simmer on low heat for 15–20 minutes until potatoes are fork-tender and patties are cooked through.
Step 6: Garnish & Serve
Sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve hot, straight from the skillet.
Pair with steamed green beans, a fresh salad, or warm dinner rolls.
Notes
Use Baby Potatoes – They cook faster and evenly.
Brown for Flavor – Don’t skip the searing steps—they add depth to the dish.
Thicken to Taste – Simmer uncovered for a few minutes if the gravy needs to reduce more.
Make It Creamy – Stir in a splash of cream or sour cream at the end for a richer gravy.
Stretch It – Add peas, carrots, or green beans for more volume and color.
