Ingredients

Scale

For the Donuts:

  • 2 cups Bisquick baking mix

  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar

  • ½ cup milk

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 tbsp melted butter

  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)

For the Coating (choose one or both):

  • ½ cup granulated sugar mixed with 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 cup powdered sugar mixed with 2-3 tbsp milk for glaze

Optional Toppings:

  • Sprinkles

  • Chopped nuts

  • Shredded coconut

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the Bisquick mix and granulated sugar.

  2. In another bowl, whisk together milk, egg, vanilla extract, and melted butter.

  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until a soft dough forms.

  4. If dough is too sticky, add 1-2 extra tablespoons of Bisquick.

Step 2: Roll and Cut the Donuts

  1. Lightly flour a clean surface and roll the dough out to about ½-inch thickness.

  2. Use a donut cutter or two different-sized round cutters to cut out donut shapes.

  3. Gather and re-roll scraps to cut more donuts until the dough is used up.

Step 3: Heat the Oil

  1. In a deep frying pan or pot, heat about 2 inches of oil over medium heat to 350°F (use a thermometer if possible).

  2. Test by dropping a small piece of dough into the oil—it should sizzle and rise to the surface.

Step 4: Fry the Donuts

  1. Carefully lower a few donuts into the hot oil, without overcrowding the pan.

  2. Fry for about 1-2 minutes per side, or until golden brown.

  3. Use a slotted spoon to remove donuts and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Step 5: Coat and Serve

  1. While still warm, toss the donuts in cinnamon sugar or dip them in powdered sugar glaze.

  2. Let glazed donuts rest on a wire rack to set the glaze.

  3. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Keep the Oil Temperature Steady – Too hot and the donuts will burn, too cool and they’ll absorb too much oil.
Don’t Overmix the Dough – Stir just until combined for soft, tender donuts.
Fry in Batches – Prevents overcrowding and keeps the oil temperature stable.
Use a Wire Rack – Keeps the donuts crisp while they cool and prevents sogginess.
Customize Your Toppings – Try different glazes, sugar coatings, or even chocolate dips!
